Brynley spoke about the significance of the temple open house to her. “Being able to go through a tour, I’ve been able to see what I’ll be able to do one day,” Brynley said. There are currently no Utah temples announced and still in planning and design. The Saratoga Springs Utah Temple was announced in April 2017 by then-Church President Thomas S. Monson.

Inside the temple, the design cues and color palette are inspired by the blues, purples, golds and greens of surrounding flora and fauna, such as wildflowers, marsh grass, reeds and the previously mentioned snowy egrets. The finest materials and workmanship go into each and every temple, including the Saratoga Springs Temple – from its imported mahogany and marble, to the custom art-glass windows and crystal chandeliers. All of these elements and finishes are designed to enhance the experience and inspiration of those who come to worship in this holy place. It has been just over six years since the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple was announced in April 2017 by President Monson, and now the time has finally come to reveal to the public the interior of the new temple and begin the open house.

Guests of all ages are invited to free public open houses that are held for newly constructed and renovated temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The open house features displays and a walk-through tour of the temple. Once the temple is formally dedicated, entrance is reserved for faithful Church members.

Temple Open Houses and Dedications

Elder Evan A. Schmutz, first counselor in the Utah Area Presidency, said temples should be a symbol of the lives of members of the church. He said temples lift members, and members should lift and be a blessing in communities where they live. He said temples are beacons of light, and members can also share light with those around them. The public can view the new temple during an open house period from April 15 to July 8. The Saratoga Springs Temple will be the 179th temple of the Church of Jesus Christ in operation; a total of 315 temples are currently in operation, being built or slated to be built. Brynley said her peers are also excited about the new temple, and they have already had some youth activities at the new temple, including helping with shoe coverings and cleaning the grounds.

The design reflects the quiet peace and inspiration of the surrounding mountains and wetlands. The entrance plaza is anchored by a tiered water feature surrounded by manicured gardens. A grassy lawn with meandering walkways fills the east side of the property. The event will be held on Thursday, June 13 as a celebration of a successful tour and to welcome the summer season in Saratoga Springs.

“It is always a treat to be able to showcase the architecture and history of North Broadway and give people the opportunity to see inside these beautiful homes. The Foundation is grateful to the owners who graciously share their homes to benefit our mission,” said Executive Director Samantha Bosshart in the release. Previously, temple dedications have been accompanied by a youth celebration, but Elder Duncan said there will not be one this time because leaders want the focus to be on the temple itself.

“All of God’s creations are reflected in the variety of what we see in the temple and how it’s put together. As a house of the Lord, this temple is entered by only the most devout Latter-day Saints after its dedication. Thus, they are eager to show the building to neighbors and friends during the open house. This sacred space, located northwest of Utah Lake in Utah County, was first announced at general conference in April 2017 by then Church President Thomas S. Monson. The font railings were designed by Naylor Wentworth Lund in Salt Lake City, Utah.

This is the first temple open house and dedication in Utah since 2018, when the Jordan River Temple was rededicated. Elder Duncan said as more temples are completed in Utah, the open house dates may be shorter. She said they walked in the snow and in the sun and anticipated the temple being finished. Ensign Drive, will host private tours for invited guests Tuesday through Friday before opening to the public on Saturday. Tours will be conducted Mondays through Saturdays from April 15 through July 8.

The exterior of the temple is eight-inch-thick beige concrete made in Salt Lake County by Forterra. The spire is glass fiber reinforced concrete by Unlimited Design in Salt Lake City. The structure of the building is steel with concrete shear walls and concrete floor slabs. A decorative band that wraps around the exterior of the temple includes a mountain design, and Utah Lake wetlands and snowy egrets are represented on the metal panels. Prevalent in the temple are depictions of local flora and fauna including the iris, daisy and chrysanthemum, which are common wildflowers in the area; and birds, reeds and mountains that can all be seen nearby at Utah Lake. The temple will be dedicated in three sessions, by President Henry B. Eyring, who will preside at the dedication.
